I have asthma. This was the reason that I started to run, my pulmonologist suggested to start doing cross country and then my parents pushed me into it. At first I couldn't run very far, or fast, but I continued to run. Over time, my lungs got stronger and stronger. I still wasn't fast, and I made excuses for why I wasn't good, but I was improving. I would run miles on my off days, pushing myself to run faster and faster, I didn't know why, I just knew it felt right. Eventually, I started to improve, my speed was going up, and my stamina kept increasing, at this point, I started to stop feeling my asthma. When I got to high school, there were kids way faster than me I was more motivated than ever before and wanted to catch them, after a few seasons, I started to keep up with them and sometimes finish ahead.
Running has helped me make new friends, and helped me to break out of my shell. It has helped me to understand the feelings of others, and showed me my flaws. I've tried so many new things ever since I was forced to start running and hope that I'll continue to experience more. I'm still a freshman, nowhere close to the end of the road, but when I get there, I'll start creating a new path.
