I am a multi sport athlete who swims and runs/jumps in Track and Field. I also ski and have played soccer. Track and Swimming are my passions. I swim from mid October to March. I compete in track from April through July. I swim and do track with my high school and private clubs. My Phy Ed Coach clocked me at a 4.6, in a 40 during my freshman year.
We didn’t have a track season in 2020, so my stats are from 2019. In 2017, I took a year off of track and swam instead to keep from burning out on the advice of my coach.
I have a lot of potential. My parents didn‘t allow any weight lifting until my freshman year (2019/2020) . Also, my track seasons are really short since I also swim. This hasn’t given me much time to work on my technique for running, long jump or high jump. Coach Anderson reminds me every summer how he has to redo my running technique because I look like I am swimming. My jumping coach says I have an elite level explosive jump and haven’t reached my potential because I haven’t had time to work on my technique due to my swimming schedule.
My versatlity shows my my untapped potential. One example is when I tried the Javelin due to leg issues when I grew 6 inches in a short period. I added the Javelin at last minute, competed only three times in the event and placed in the top 35 in the United States at the AAU Junior Olympics.
It is also shown when I tried the high jump. I placed 5th in the High Jump at the AAU National Junior Olympics. I had only jumped competively 4x before nationals and couldn’t even practice the two weeks before nationals because of a broken toe.
This versatility is also shown when I tried the pentathlon when I was 11 (competing as a 12 years old). I had never ran or even trained for a 1500 and ran a 5:11. I had never thrown a shot out and practiced only a couple of times and threw it 29 feet. I also had never tried the hurdles and did them as part of the pentathlon. I was able to run a low 14 in the 80 meter hurdles with only a couple of practices. I won the AAU Region and set a record for most points scored, won the USATF state title and set the State record and placed 12th at the AAU National Junior Olympics.
