Personal Statement
I’ll be attending college to complete my bachelor’s degree, majoring in psychology. After I complete my bachelor’s, I am going to earn my master’s degree in counseling so I can become a professional counselor (LPC) and work in a private clinical practice. I want to focus on counseling at-risk youth, families in crisis, and veterans reintegrating into the community. I’m interested in supporting clients who have suffered trauma by helping them develop constructive and adaptive coping strategies and concentrating on therapeutic approaches that are restorative rather than reformatory.
I am a well-rounded student. I have maintained an excellent GPA and class rank while contributing to and competing in my school’s music program and as a year-round student-athlete. Every quarter of high school, I’ve taken one or more honors, weighted, advanced placement (AP), dual enrollment and/or dual credit class. I’ve made the honor roll all quarters and maintained a 3.5 or higher GPA. I’m a three-sport letterman, saxophonist in marching and concert band, an elected student council representative-at-large, A+ mentor, and student ambassador.
As a mid-distance runner in individual and relay events, I’ve been a varsity team member at Kirksville High School since my freshman year. In 2021, my track team were Conference Champions. My 4x800 relay team placed first in conference in 2021; we were also state qualifiers and placers. Planning on a break-out season, I’m one of the Track & Field team co-captains this year. I’m excited to compete in Track & Field at the collegiate level. I’m a reliable and dedicated team member and natural leader by example. I enjoy training hard and learning with and from my fellow athletes. I hold my coaches and their expertise in high regard and demonstrate respect for my program and team. I look forward to dedicating my work ethic, determination, commitment, integrity, and team-centeredness to running competitively in college.
