My Grandpa recently passed away, and one of our many common interests lies within our love of track and field. While I have not yet climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro or Pikes Peak as he had many times, I have climbed to new distances and times while working hard this 2022 year. Not getting the chance to participate in my freshman year of track because of Covid, it made me work even harder my sophomore and junior year of high school. My sophomore year I qualified for our 4x100 Class B State meet, and this year I qualified for the long jump. I PR’d in both, one at State, the other at District .This is because of my strong desire to achieve more, even when it was not easy. Being able to compete in a very strong Class B meet is something I am proud of, and I know I have more to accomplish. I could not have achieved what I have done without the encouragement of my teammates, coaches, family, and friends. While it is great to receive awards for athletic merit, I am truly just so excited to get to participate alongside my teammates. I strongly desire to continue my track and field career in college as I know that I have much more to learn and understand from what it means to be a true athlete. I want to continue to make my Papa proud.
