The feeling of my fingertips against the hard ground, the determination in my eyes, and then finally the loud bang of the starting gun. Once I begin running I get an indescribable serenity and fulfillment. Track & Field has been a significant tool in making me who I am today.
I can undoubtedly say that track has given me a great amount of discipline. Nothing is handed out in life and the same goes for track. People can not simply win by just wanting it. I had to work extremely hard to get the medals and trophies I have obtained over the years. One has to dedicate time and energy into honing their skill. The same discipline applies to college. One has to be determined to receive a higher education and I have that determination.
Close to the end of every track season we have nationals. Nationals to my team were like the Superbowl of track and it takes hard work to get there. There have been times when certain athletes had to stay home while the rest of the team was out traveling including myself. That has taught me, “You have to work hard for what you want.”
My coach always told us that we are student athletes because school came first. If we did not have adequate grades then we could not run. Failing grades was not tolerated ,and there was always an equal punishment. Although it seemed harsh back then I can now see the benefits it gives me.
Having this confidence and intentness has prepared me for college. I am ready to take on the new challenges that lie ahead and a new city to explore. I am focused on getting a noteable education and I believe that your institution can help me achieve that goal.
