Personal Statement
My name is Ryan Cichocki and I am a junior at Union Catholic Regional High School in Scotch Plains, NJ. I started running in middle school and quickly realized that it was really enjoyable. After meeting my current high school coach, who runs an amazing program, at a summer track camp I decided to go to Union Catholic and run Cross Country and Track.
This sport has taught me the value of hard work, both physically and mentally. I have been blessed with amazing teammates and we learned how to trust each other and work together to break school records and get recognized in our home state (#1 team) and get nationally ranked (#4). We won the State Group Championship and Meet of Champions in New Jersey for the first time ever and I am proud to have been a scoring runner in all of these meets. At the Runninglane Nationals in Huntsville, AL earlier this month, our team came in 4th and broke the NJ 5K team record time with a 15:02 average- I scored in this race with a 15:37 PR which was a great way to end the season.
I look forward to continuing to work hard in Winter/Spring track and continue to be successful in my academics (honor roll), leadership (student ambassador) and running during senior year. I would love to run in college and be a strong contributor to a college program while I further my education.
