I was born into running. My mother and uncle were both competitive runners that competed at Penn State University, and I have always felt compelled to follow in their footsteps. I am driven by the success and gratification that running brings me, but mostly by the discovery of what my body is capable of when hard work is applied. I have a true love for running and see myself continuing for many years to come.
I have continually improved over the years and feel like I have finally started to “hit my stride” this past track season. I decided to put some focus on my 800m performances, and ended the season with a 11th place finish among all divisions at the NYS Championships with a 1:55.58 and overcoming a 30+ year old school record by over 2 seconds. My biggest disappointment is that the season didn’t last longer, as I am confident I had a bit more improvement left in me when it ended. I have my sights set on 1:53 for next year and putting some time into lowering my 1600m time significantly in indoor track. I’m also looking forward to competing at the NYS Cross Country State Championships again this fall with my team and hoping for a podium finish for Class A.
I have found that applying the same work ethic has been rewarding to me in the classroom as well. Ranked 2/279 in my class and carrying a cumulative weighted GPA of 102.169 at the end of my junior year, strong academic performance is very important to me, and something I will continue to carry on during my collegiate career. I’m unsure of what my future career may hold, but currently have interest in engineering and computer science.
I think the biggest attributes that I will bring to a team are dependability, optimism and strong teammate support. I can be counted on to show up and put my all into every run, workout, or weight room session, while at the same time completing classroom assignments and performing well academically. I love seeing my teammates improve and reach their goals, not only because they are experiencing success, but also because it will motivate me as well. I have the ultimate goal of contributing to a team that can push me to be my best as I prepare for my future.
