I’m Jordan Elliott, and I’m currently in the midst of my junior year at Rome Free Academy. Ever since I was of walking age, I’ve been involved in sports. I grew up a baseball kid but by the time I reached the seventh grade, fellow peers opened my eyes to my natural ability in running, in general.
My greatest asset as a baseball player was my speed and endurance, and those two key characteristics drove me to join the cross country team. Since then, I’ve ran XC for my school each year. My sophomore season, I received the Most Improved Award for taking the biggest jump from the previous years’ first marking period average to the next years’. This past season, I was a team captain, TVL Allstar, and posted an 18:10 as a new PR.
Despite my running success, I remained on the ballfield and wrestling mat, as I had been since seventh grade. It wasn't until this year where I made the transition to a full-time runner. After failing to make the JV baseball squad my sophomore year, I joined the outdoor track team and went on to win Rookie of the Year honors, and posted a PR in the open 400m at 56.5 at TVL’s, and a 56.0 at sectionals in the 4x400m. This past season was my inaugural as an indoor track runner, where I set my PR in the 4x400m at 55.9, and a 2:17 in the 4x800m. I went on to win Rookie of the Year and become a TVL Allstar.
Entering my second year on the outdoor squad, I look to not only make scholar athlete but also to compete in the State meet in the 400m and make a deep run at a sectional win for the 4x800m team. My versatility as a runner allows me to succeed in a number of events.
As an athlete and a student, you won’t find anyone else who works as hard as I do. I take honors and AP classes and I take tremendous pride in my ability to better myself and others around me. I’m ready to learn and grow on and off the track and XC course at the collegiate level.
