My name is Kelan Byrne and I am a incoming Junior (2027') at Chagrin Falls High School striving for academic and athletic excellence. I maintain above a 4.0 GPA with various honors and AP classes whilst balancing a high volume of training and a job. On the athletic side, I put in work outside of practice on a daily basis in order to better my chances of success within my races.
During my sophomore year, specifically my track season, I learned a lot. Unfortunately I wasn't able to best optimize my training, which left me overtrained and underperforming. Despite this, I was still able to run considerably faster than my previous track season. I dropped 10 seconds in the 800m, 17 seconds in the 1600m, and 49 seconds in the 3200m. Based off this, for my upcoming junior year, my main goal is to best optimize my training, in order to get as close to my potential as possible. I want to carry on this path of progression, and hopefully climb closer to the top of the podium in every race I am apart of. More specific goals are getting closer to Chagrin Falls school record of 15:09 in the 5k, and placing top 5 in division 3 state.
One reason I would be a valuable piece on any team is because of my tendency to question. I question not just my parents but my coaches, as I truly am passionate about knowing the why behind certain decisions. In a track and field environment this means I am an attentive listener, and someone who is actually interested in aspects of running outside of the basics. I am not just passionate about running for attaining high levels of performance, but also in the technical aspects of training, a part often overlooked by other runners my age. In turn I will make you a better coach by forcing you to stay on top of your game.
