Personal Statement
As a four-year track athlete, I pride myself on hard work and dedication. I feel the best way to gain respect of my teammates is to lead through example. During every practice, I not only intend to improve myself, but my teammates. Every day I do something to grow as a sprinter; whether it be lifting in the weight room, conditioning, block work, or core workouts. I encourage teammates to reach their full potential in track and academics. I do this by letting them know that I'm always willing to help. Whether it is homework, studying, or pushing them to stay focused. What separates me from other competitors is that I make sure that all, whether big or small, parts of my races are perfected. I want to compete with the best because even if I don’t win there’s always a lesson to be learned.
Academically, I set daily goals to keep myself on track. Academics and athletics are equally important to me. Just as I work on perfecting my races in track, I make sure to do all that I can to become a better student. As I mature into a more educated person, I find myself taking a leadership role in helping others. Reading is essential to self-development. Reading is one of the best ways to learn new vocabulary and become a better writer. As a young student entering into my early teens, I wasn’t an avid reader. When I started High School, I made it a habit to read. All my characteristics are shown in both my academics and athletics.
In the future, I aspire to continue to acquire a well-rounded education in college. Focusing on achieving and maintaining a high GPA. With my strong mathematical background, I intend to pursue a BSBA majoring in Finance. Athletically, I want to improve my level of physical fitness and skill. It is my goal to prepare to compete in the 2020 Summer Olympics.
