Akil Jones '23 Recruiting Profile

     As far as my collegiate goals and aspirations go, I want to pursue track in college to give me a chance at a better education and the chance to better myself athletically. I've always taken school seriously, and have made it intentional to hold my academics of high importance (after God and Family). Having the chance to run college track will help me take my education to the next level (likely with getting more connections in the school), and help me take my athletics to the next level (staying in shape, gaining relationships with new people, more connections, etc...). 

     Additionally, I believe that I am a great candidate because of my personability, dedication, and discipline. With these three values, plus a plethora of more that I have under my belt, I would bring to the team not only a great attitude and lightheartedness, but a means of stability when it comes to being a leader, keeping my fellow teammates on track, and putting in the work necessary to win. 

     Furthermore, what makes me different from other recruits is my dedication in the classroom (as well as on the track), the ease I have with creating relationships with wide ranges of different people, and my "full-time athlete mentality". Let me explain that last point a bit further. My current track coach always tells us that we're not part time athletes, and that we need to do our homework (getting sufficient rest, staying hydrated, icing bumps and bruises, etc..) just as we would in the regular classroom. Being an athlete is like extending the classroom, we're still learning and bettering our minds and bodies, just without the desks and pencils.
