My name is Adam Schmidt and I am an 18-year-old runner from Guelph, Ontario in Canada currently attending Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute High School as I take an extra year to take some additional courses and continue to train. I am a middle distance and cross country runner running mainly the 800m and 1500m on the track and 6 kilometers (3.73 miles) races for my cross country season. Currently, I have personal bests of 1:58 in the 800m and a personal best of 4:08 in the 1500m. This past track season I focused mainly on the 800m as the races tended to fit better with my exam schedule through championship season so I did not make as much improvement as I wanted to in the 1500m. This coming year I hope to break 1:55 in the 800m and go below 4:00 in the 1500m, I truly believe both of these are very achievable. In cross country, I ran a best time of 19:35 for a 6.03km course and won my district meet, placed 6th at the regional meet and went on to race the Ontario provincial meet OFSAA where I had a tough race finishing 42nd out of 300. I started running seriously about a year and a half ago and started to see some massive improvements. Currently, I am running about 40-45 miles a week with a couple high-end weeks nearing or hitting 50 miles (quite rare). Academically, I would describe myself as a very strong and driven student. My GPA for my grade 12 year was 4.0 while taking a full course load of International Baccalaureate program scoring 34 points overall. I have a passion for learning and constantly push myself to find opportunities to improve my academics. For example, currently, I am conducting a research project out of the University of Guelph on forces that are applied when running as an extension of the physics class I am currently taking. Projects like these allow me to push myself academically while still tailoring y choices to my interests to put out the best possible product.
Thank you for your time and I hope to hear back from you soon
