My daily motivation comes from my love of running and my hope for a better world. Growing up with my grandparents while my mother was employed by the Junction City State Hospital during my formative years has had a significant impact on who I am and what I stand for. I learned charisma, leadership, and love from my grandparents. I learned discipline, ambition, and commitment from my mother. My dad was violent. As a child, I experienced domestic violence. After my parents separated, he passed away. I was raised by powerful women who showed me how to be my best self.
Middle school is when I first started getting interested in track and field, but it wasn't until high school that I understood how good I could be at it. I've learned from running that I can always push myself further, go beyond my comfort zone, and accomplish more than I ever imagined. Along with that, it has helped me become more focused, disciplined, and resilient both on and off the track.
My academic goals for high school include getting maintaining a high GPA again, taking challenging courses, and preparing for college. In college, I hope to major in political science, with the goal of pursuing a career in public office.
In my life, I've had to overcome challenges like financial hardship and prejudice because I'm gay. But these encounters only strengthened my determination to succeed and change the world for the better.
As a person, I believe my empathy, passion for social justice, and my ability to connect with people of various backgrounds are some of my most distinctive qualities. Additionally, I have a solid work ethic and am open to new opportunities and responsibilities.
My ultimate goal is to run for office and effect significant change in the community and beyond. I am committed to standing up for what is right and fighting against the corrupt institutions that hurt people and the environment as I am motivated by the vision of leaders like Marianne Williamson. I intend to develop the abilities, knowledge, and network required to realize my goals and have a positive influence on the world through running and my academic endeavors.
