My name is Ty Fluharty and I am a junior at Riverside High School. I have run track for 5 years now and have always loved the sport and have gotten progressively better throughout my years as a runner. In 2019, my freshman year, I helped our 4x800m relay team qualify for states splitting a 2:03 as the first leg. I also placed 11th in the open 800m later that day running a 2:05. That year I also helped our team win our third WPIAL team title in a row, running the 4x800m, 1600m, 800m, and 3200m at that WPIAL meet.
My 2020 sophomore season sadly got canceled due to Covid but I ran an 800m PR of 2:03 and a 1600m PR of 4:46 indoors. I also ran cross country for the first time as a sophomore, placing 20th at WPIALS with an 18:18 and qualifying for states. I then ran a 17:53 at states and placed 53rd.
My junior XC season was somewhat short because of Covid but I got to run at a few meets. I placed third at the Bald Eagle Invite with a time of 17:36. I placed 12th in WPIALs with a PR of 17:10 and missed states by 2 places because of the limited number of people that could qualify. During winter track I got very sick with Covid and could not run for a few weeks, this led me to only run a PR of 2:08 indoors in the 800m and 54.8 in the 400m. I turned it around in outdoor season running a 1:57.79 to place first at the Butler Invitational. I helped our team win our 4th WPIAL title in a row running on the winning 4x800m relay, placing second in the 1600m , first in the 800m, and winning the 3200m. I helped our 4x800m relay place third at WPIAL individuals splitting a 1:57.6 and later that day PRed in the 800m with a 1:56.41 to place second behind my teammate. I also helped our 4x400m relay win WPIALs splitting a 52.6. The next week at states a ran a 1:55.57 to place 4th in the 800m run, falling short of third by just 0.2 seconds. I also helped our 4x400m relay win the state meet, splitting 49.9 as the second runner.
I am a very hard worker and always give it my all whether it be at a practice, in school, or during a meet. I work very well with other runners and could run lots of different events and could help pretty much any track team. I am also very easy to coach and I am always open to new ideas and workouts that I have never tried before.
