Hello, my name is Matt, and I am very interested in running both cross country and track in college. I strive to encourage my teammates to give their best effort and improve and act as a leader on my team by giving my best effort and helping many of my teammates with training, both in-season and out of season. Without my experienced coaches and their incredible knowledge of running, I would not be even close to the runner I am today, and I am so thankful for them and their dedication to improving our team. I am also thankful for the time and effort my parents put in with taking me to practices, traveling to watch my meets, and helping with the team.
I am a very hard worker both on and off the field, which can be seen upon looking at my grades and participation in many other activities. A few of my academic accomplishments include National Junior Honor Society, Distinguished Honor Roll, and scoring a 5 on the AP test for AP Calculus while in 9th grade. I am also very involved in many extracurricular activities, including Boy Scouts, York Youth Symphony Orchestra, York County Junior Honors Choir, PMEA District Choir, PMEA All-State Choir, OAKE National Chamber Choir, placing 9th in the WITF Regional Spelling Bee in 8th grade, placing 3rd in my county in Math Counts in 8th grade, and a part-time job at Titanium Athletics. In Boy Scouts, I am currently the rank of Life and am working on my Eagle Scout Project in which I am improving the weathered track shed at my school, which serves as the place that the scorekeepers sit. I plan to go to college to pursue a degree involving some math, engineering, or physics of some sort.
I am running the 4x800, 1600, 3200, and 800 this year. In our first invitational of the year, the Jack Roddick Invitational at Shippensburg, I ran a 17 second best in the 3200 with a 9:40.64 and a 4th place finish in a very competitive field, as well as a 9 second school record. I also ran anchor leg for my 4x800m team and then tripled back to run a 1 second best of 4:31.31 in the 1600. I look forward to improving my 1600 time with fresh legs and watching both times improve with more training further in the season. My goals were originally to break our school's records of 4:26 and 9:49 this year. Now, my goal in the 3200 is to get under 9:30.
