I suppose I'm not the typical cross-country athlete. I'm legally blind (which is not the same as actually blind), I only began running my sophomore year in high school (after I dropped tennis because, well, I couldn't see the ball), I have a 1580 on my SATs, I'm all-state (OK, in tuba) and I"m exploring whether I'd like to run at a small, liberal-arts college. Obviously, my times aren't yet where they need to be. But I've broken 5:00 minutes in the mile, I finished 15th in the state at cross-country in just my second year running and I hope to take another step this coming season. I also have a photo of myself with Joan Benoit and that has to count for something, right? I'm looking at colleges such at Bowdoin, Haverford, Williams, Carleton, Grinnell, Rhodes, Kenyon and others that fit that model. That's certainly not a complete list but it's the sort of place that I think might fit me best.
