My college goals and aspirations are to receive my bachelor’s degree in history and to compete at the collegiate level in pole-vaulting. I hope to be a history teacher and to be a pole-vaulting coach one day to give back to all the student athletes in the track and field community. I am an honor student. I played a few years of baseball and ran track. Due to injuries in track, I found the love for pole-vaulting. I started pole-vaulting the end of my sophomore year without any formal coaching, but I felt that I could compete in this event. I finished my sophomore campaign, jumping 10 feet for my personal record. I ended my junior year with a personal record of 14 feet and finishing second in the district meet. I know that I have the potential to jump at a collegiate level and I have set my goals to jump 15 to 16 feet by the end of my senior year. Playing baseball and battling sports injuries has given me the perseverance to push through when time gets difficult. Though I am years behind compared the rest of my peers and competitors, I truly feel that I can compete at their level and beyond through hard work and dedication. I plan to concentrate on pole-vaulting all year round with the help of personal training and coaching to get ready for my senior year and to make it to the next level.
