Although I grew up in an old farmhouse on a dirt road amid the mountains of Vermont, I never doubted that I would go to college. After all, my parents both have advanced degrees and together they set high expectations for my academic work, which I happily met. What has surprised me these past years is how running has become an important part of my life, and I now look forward to combining my love of running with my college education. My parents are neither runners, nor athletes, so they have watched with delight and amazement as I became committed to seeing how far I can push myself as a runner. Fortunately, my high school coach is an icon within our state and under his care I excelled on the Varsity team as a Freshman and Sophomore. Now, as I begin my Junior year and third year as a Varsity runner on both the Cross Country and Track teams, I look forward to trying to lead the team to consecutive State titles in Cross Country and setting an example for my teammates through my hard work and commitment. I give everything I have to the team and to Coach Kerrigan. I know he cares about me and he pushes me to do my best. At each race I try and show him that I have taken to heart everything he has taught me. He means so much to me, that although I have individual goals, I want to help Harwood place in the top three as a team at New Englands. I know how much that would mean to Coach and he deserves it for everything he has given me.
