For as long as I can remember, I have loved 2 things, running and outdoor life. I began playing baseball and soccer when I was 5, then later played rec basketball and ran cross country to stay in shape for baseball.
In 2022 I decided to run indoor track instead of basketball, which definitely is not my sport. For some reason, I was drawn to the pole vault. I never thought I would be very good at it (I'm not tall), and we did not have a pole vault coach, but I began to teach myself. I became pretty good and another teammate recommended that I take lessons. I began going to Aim High Pole Vault Club in Mechanicsville, Virginia under coach Kyle Bishop.
In one season I went from jumping 8' to 13', winning our regional meet and coming in 3rd in Class 3 state. This past indoor season I also won regionals and came in 3rd in the state again. I jumped 14' 9" last indoor season and have jumped a personal best of 15' so far in outdoor. That's an improvement of 7' in only 16 months. I have given up baseball and am now concentrating all my effort on becoming the best pole vaulter in the state.
My goals are to break our school record of 16' 2" before I graduate, then go on to pole vault at a good track/field college while obtaining a degree in Marine Biology. I have always loved the outdoors and life on the water. I am fascinated by all animals, especially aquatic life and would love to pursue that as my career.
