Nicholas Hayden '23 Recruiting Profile

I’m Nick!  I just completed my sophomore year at Millbrook High School in Winchester, VA.  Right now I’m exploring options to pursue running after I graduate.  My freshman year I moved to Winchester and didn’t start running cross country until late August. I finished my first race I finished in 19:57 5k.  During the year I improved by over 2:30 (17:21) and was 5^th on our team that placed 8^th at the Virginia Class 4 State Tournament.  My sophomore year I continued to improve and brought my cross country time down to 16:00 at The East Coast Spring Open in Mechanicville, VA and 4:27 in a poorly paced 1600.  I’ve learned much about the sport during the past two years. The feedback I receive from my coach is that I’m inexperienced and need to work on my pacing and race tactics.  I’m always trying to learn more and relish competing against the best runners.

Outside of running, I focus on academics where I’m carrying near a 4.0 GPA. I’m also a certified lifeguard at our community swimming pool. I when time allows, I like fishing from my stand-up paddleboard and do work on small engines (lawn mowers, go karts, ATVs, etc).  Although I don’t know what career or major I will pursue, I do enjoy being active and outside more than sitting behind a desk.  Thank you for reading my profile and I hope to hear from you!
