Personal Statement
I am an aspiring college runner studying at Tesla STEM High School (a choice school), competing in Cross Country & Outdoor Track through my home high school, Eastlake High School (4A Kingco Conference).
I grew up in a family of runners, and became more interested in competing in 8th grade, when friends encouraged me to join the track team. I then grew to love both competing and encouraging friends to achieve their best as well. I am now a captain of the Eastlake Cross Country team of 70 boys, and I put consistent effort into encouraging my teammates to both achieve excellence as well as creating a positive, community environment. I have discovered the value of summer training, which has fostered a year-round dedication to both track and cross country. Eastlake runs a low mileage program, leaving plenty of room for future improvement. I am very focused on academics as well, having taken many AP & Honors classes throughout my high school career. I am looking for an academically rigorous school to challenge myself, as well as a competitive cross country and track program where I will contribute both competitively and to the team as a community.
I work hard to balance my running and academics in addition to performing with the youth symphony and leading many activities in my scout troop throughout high school. Through these experiences, I have learned the value of good time management and dedication to my commitments. I have also learned that goal setting is important to success in both school and athletics, as evidenced in my breakout senior season this year. Throughout high school, I have discovered a passion for lifelong running and racing, and a love of fun and competition with other dedicated runners.
