Michael Moreiras '16 Recruiting Profile

Ever since I was an elementary school student I had always wanted to play volleyball.   Starting in seventh grade my school coach encouraged me to strive to be the very best during both of our seasons.  I began to play club volleyball when I was fourteen with Florida Sons and later with Ocean Bay Volleyball Club.  I am currently playing club volleyball with Orlando Gold Black.

As I entered High School, I was immediately selected to start as an outside hitter on the Varsity team as a freshman.  During sophomore year, I held the title of MVP and I was the only sophomore to make made first team all Broward County, and second team all Miami Dade County.

I am the first recipient of the Kevin O’Connell Scholarship award.  This award is for students that have shown outstanding faith-based values and strong academics throughout middle school.  Also in 8th grade I received the Pinnacle award which is the highest honor a student can receive while attending 1-8 grade in catholic school.  This award is given to the students that have excelled academically, socially, athletically, and have demonstrated excellent leadership skills and are highly regarded by their peers and teachers.

Currently I volunteer with best buddies and peer ministry at my high school.   I also manage the girl’s volleyball team, and volunteer 3 weeks of the summer with a volleyball camp program that aids kids from ages 8-18 learn to play volleyball.

As an outside hitter and a defensive specialist I believe that my volleyball IQ and my communication skills are what allow me to keep my team together.  Each tournament we strive to perform at the highest level possible.
