Michael Johnson '18 Recruiting Profile

Aloha Coaches,

My name is Michael Johnson, and volleyball is life to me.  Whether it be teaching others or playing, the court has become my second home.  I love the teamwork, I love the excitement, and above all, I love the challenges it creates.  

I've been on the varsity team since my freshman year, and have played in club since twelve years old.  This year, our school's volleyball team moved up to Division 1 after winning our 7th consecutive state division 2 championship in 2017.  HBA has claimed 9 out of 10 state championship titles, and the two words that come to mind when I think of my team are determination and heart.  I’ve learned that playing against the best of the best inspires everyone to reach higher, push their skill level, and embrace challenges with determination.  I believe that disciplined skill, balanced with commitment contributes to the success of a team, but true victory rests on something far above; it lies within the character and fellowship of each player on the team.  Supporting, inspiring, and encouraging each other to persevere, step into responsibility, and apply knowledge learned, is what keeps success moving forward. This is my philosophy in life, and I know that it has direct application into the classroom, college life, and a career as well.  

Volleyball is my passion, college success is my goal, and I would love to have the opportunity to play at the collegiate level. Although I have found my spot as a 5’10” outside, converting to Libero or DS is a task that I would totally embrace. Basically, just to step on to the college court would be an immense honor!  If I have the privilege of playing college volleyball, it would be the exciting challenge that I've always dreamed of.  Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile!
