Volleyball is my greatest passion. I was first introduced to volleyball when I was 11 by a cousin of mine that played for years but it was only when I was 13 that I got to touch a volleyball. My uncle decided to host a volleyball training camp around the begging of January. He knew I wanted to get into the sport but never had the chance and this was it. Three hours every Friday for four weeks of intense practice with some of the best youth players.
I was like a baby learning how to walk compared to all of them. but these players did not deter me but were kind and supportive of me learning even though the first game I ever played had me be the only one to be served at and not be able to receive it. This was a great moment for me to understand the level I was at and understand that there at so much more I can improve. I came out of there with the foundation and all I had to do now was polish and build off it.
I made close friends with the same interests as me from volleyball to be the best. We all practice on Sunday every week before any people come to the court and some of my greatest moments happen on that court. I was in a match with the opposing team having an experienced player, I got trusted with a set from a teammate and it was me, the experienced player and a six feet blocker all in the air. I move my arm in a way that just felt right with my eye on the ball, hitting the tip of their hand and hitting the ground was a moment for me that felt like I just overcame a monster. Volleyball is that one thing that you will feel down or believe you're going down a constant downhill, but it only takes one moment that will make you fall for it. Hello and thank you for reading this, from Dylan Dong a rookie volleyball player.
