Personal Statement
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter on behalf of Aidan Miller, who is participating in your volleyball recruitment program. There is much to recommend Aidan as a volleyball player, and as an athlete in general. Aidan joined my volleyball program in 2019, as the only 8th grader on the team. Even though he was competing with much older, larger players, it quickly became apparent that Aidan fit right in with the team. He was upbeat, confident, and supportive. His older teammates accepted his position on the team without question, recognizing his positive contributions. Aidan quickly grasped the fundamentals of the 4-2 rotation and was a natural at defense. His ability to read the server or hitter, react quickly and consistently, and cover large areas of the court made him an excellent choice for libero. He grew into that role quickly, and added back row attacks to his repertoire by the end of the season.
Aidan missed out on participating in volleyball during his 9th grade year when all sports were canceled due to the global pandemic of 2020. However, when he returned to the court in 2021, it was evident that he had been working on his skills. His teammates chose Aidan as one of their three captains that year, even though he was still a sophomore. Aidan’s knowledge of the game, leadership skills, and light touch made him an ideal setter. However, with two other setters already on the roster and our team struggling defensively, I asked Aidan to step back into his libero jersey. He did so willingly, for the good of the team, even though it was not his preferred position. Aidan helped lead the team to a 5-4 record that year.
This year, as a junior, Aidan has once again been chosen captain by his teammates. His work ethic, focus, and determination are an example for his teammates. He also knows when the team needs a laugh to break the tension, and provides one before quickly refocusing them on the mission at hand. Aidan is now setting, and has helped the team run a 6-2 for the first time in team history. He knows how to make smart plays, moving his sets around for maximum effect.
He has added a jump serve to his repertoire, and can place his float serve accurately. He can hit from anywhere on the court with both power and accuracy. Aidan is skilled in all aspects of the game; his intelligence and leadership abilities make him a standout, but he would be the first to credit his teammates first in any win.
I can honestly say, without reservation, that Aidan would be a positive addition to any volleyball program. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.
Sincerely,
Jaime LaFlash
