Personal Statement
I was first introduced to volleyball as a novice in Freshmen year of High School and quickly fell in love with it. I have played sports my whole life with multiple years in soccer and floor hockey leagues, but volleyball captured my attention in a whole new way. Timberlane Regional High School has a very strong program, having won the State Varsity Championship three of the past five years. Although this is the season (Covid 19) I would have been on that Varsity team, as a two-year JV Starter, I was able to benefit from great coaching, mentorship, and teams that worked together with a tireless work ethic. As a starter on the JV team, our season record my Freshmen year was 13-1-0, and Sophomore year it was 10-1-0. The pinnacle of my Sophomore year was helping to lead our JV team to the State JV Tournament Championship against some of our strongest opponents. From that moment I was hooked. Our coach scheduled open gym sessions over the summer where JV, Varsity and alumni- now college players themselves- would all gather twice a week to scrimmage. I attended every one of those sessions striving to play at the level of men clearly years more experienced than myself. In fall 2019 I learned of a very new boy’s division club team being set up in association with a large girl’s club. In the space of 24 hours, I had my USAVB membership set up and I was there for tryouts. We were a small team- at some tournaments, we had two or even no subs, but we worked hard, and I can’t say how much I thrived on the club tournament experience. Coming from a state with a single division’s worth of High School teams, I met and networked with people all over New England that shared the same passion. Some of my favorite times were doing drills with other teams as we waited for seeding between matches. I came out of that club season knowing that I wanted to find a way to continue what I love into college and I would love to be able to fulfill that goal.
