Sports have been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. I tried as many different sports as I could, including football, basketball, baseball, soccer, taekwondo and, of course, volleyball. There’s something about the competition and being a part of a team that I just can’t get enough of! While I enjoyed all the sports I’ve participated in, volleyball is the one that really hooked me. From the first time I went to a Jump Start volleyball clinic with my sister at the age of 10, it just felt natural. I’ve had the pleasure of being involved with different teams at different levels and with different coaches and players. This has helped me to appreciate all the sport has to offer and has convinced me that I want to take my skills and experiences to the next level.
Once I started playing club volleyball, I really began to develop as a player. I spent several years playing middle hitter which helped me to develop not only hitting and blocking skills, but court vision and quickness, as well. I made my high school’s team as a freshman and the coach asked if I would be willing to play libero since I had shown my strength in passing and serve receiving. I agreed and went on to help our team win two rounds in the state tournament, As a sophomore I moved into my current position of outside hitter. Again, we had some holes on our team at other positions and being the team player I am, I worked with the coaches to cover other positions. My skills, my positive attitude on and off the court and my team-first mentality led to me being named team captain as a sophomore, as well as being voted Most Valuable Teammate by my peers. On a daily basis, I show my love for the sport and that I will do anything for my team.
Volleyball is my passion and I work hard at it, but I also like to challenge myself academically. I take AP classes, as well as college level classes offered through my school. My goal is to be the best version of myself, mentally and physically. I’m well-rounded, highly coachable, and have the skills and positive attitude that I’m excited to bring to a college team. I would be an asset, not only on the court but off as well. From being a “working man” at my job with Romeo’s Pizza to volunteering for the Appalachia Service Project through my church, I strive to bring a culture of comradery, enthusiasm, hard work, and togetherness to everything I do. I’m looking forward to this next chapter of my life and I know volleyball is going to be a huge part of that!
