Hello, my name is Matt Tiernan. I am a Senior and captain of my high school team at Chariho High School in Rhode Island. I also the captain for my club team, South County 18-1s team. Volleyball has been a part of my life since I started playing at age 9. Since starting high school, I have taken all honors classes in order to challenge myself and currently have a 3.71 weighted GPA. My freshman year, I was selected to be the setter for the NERVA High Performance 18U Boys Team. As a sophomore, I earned First Team All State and First Team All Division. I was put on the AVCA High Risers List as a junior and was nominated First Team All State Setter for the second year in a row. I was also Player of the Year nominee for the Spring 2022 season.
I am fortunate to have an indoor beach volleyball facility, The Sandbox, near me that allows me to work on my game regardless of the season. Playing year round with athletes who share my passion has given me a strong knowledge of the game, allowed me to improve on skills, and work on quickness and agility needed for indoor volleyball. I also work at the Sandbox a few nights a week, running leagues, scrambles and even tournaments on the weekends. Keeping busy with both work and school requires me to have solid time management skills that will benefit me when on a college volleyball team.
My collegiate goal is to be part of a successful college program on a team of dedicated and supportive athletes. I will be grateful for whatever opportunity I receive in the future from this sport that I love and am deeply committed to. Please reach out to me if you would like more information from me.
