Volleyball is a sport I discovered by watching a friend play. Intrigued by its fast pace and teamwork, I decided to give it a try my freshman year of high school. I was immediately addicted. I found it to be more competitive than other sports in which I have participated. The quick movement and how the team works together are what I love most about the game. Because of my love of the sport, I hope to continue to play at a higher level after graduating high school.
Within the past year, I have accomplished many achievements. My teammate and I won the Sand Sock Tournament for Virginia Beach Volleyball Club for our division in July 2017. I became team captain of the varsity team at my school for my junior year. I also made the first team regionals, second team district, and second team state for the Virginia High School League.
Not only do I play for my varsity volleyball team, but I am on the varsity swim team, lettering in both sports each year I have participated. I also play for Oceans Volleyball Club in Virginia Beach. I have engaged in each of these teams for the past three years. This year, I am playing on the 17s team for OVC and look forward to our many tournaments.
Sports are not the only extracurricular activities in which I participate. I am in the National Honor Society for Great Bridge High School. Being in NHS, one must have many volunteer hours and maintain a GPA of 3.5. I volunteer at my church, and I help tutor students in the lower level Spanish classes. Last year, I had the opportunity to be a founding member of Student-2-Student program at Great Bridge High. In this club, we volunteer at various places and hold functions for new high school students who are new to our school to feel more welcome.
Because of my passion for volleyball, academic status, and many achievements, I feel I would be a prime candidate for your team. I look forward to the challenges ahead of me and will work hard to overcome any obstacles I may face.
