Hello, my name is James Cromwell Young and I am a starting middle hitter for Green Run High School and the South Eastern Regional Volleyball club for the class of 2022. Even though I have only started playing volleyball since my sophomore year I can honestly say that I love this sport. My main sport had been track since about 6th grade, but by about my first or second game of volleyball that quickly changed, even though I was still very inexperienced. I think part of the reason being the team experience, which I never had before. Being able to succeed, and even fail, with my team made the hard times easier and the great times even better. That being said, like any sport, to succeed you have to put in your own work. I realized that if I wanted to make it far in Volleyball I needed to take every chance I could to play and develop my game, so I did. I went to open-gyms, high school practices, club practices, scrimmages, and whatever else was an option. Through dedication I went from a really inexperienced player on the court to one that my team can count on when they need to. Even though I have improved and developed my game greatly since I first started I still need and want to improve way more to reach my potential.
My strive for improvement and excellence is a reflection of my academic life as well. I attend an IB school and am currently reaching for my IB Diploma. This goal is an extremely hard one to obtain which is why I work as hard as I do in all my classes. Even though there were times where I wanted to just give up, I kept pushing and eventually met my mark. However, whether I reach the goal or not I think the work ethic that I have developed will help push me through college. So, from school I learned that you just have to push and learn through the hard times, and enjoy the little successes on the way, until you reach your big goal. And I apply this same mindset to volleyball, which is why I am not afraid of working hard to improve, because I understand that difficulty is what leads to success.
