Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Tanner Islander and I am extremely dedicated and passionate about the sport of water polo. I am a student at Half Moon Bay High School,  in the small coastal town of Half Moon Bay CA. I am a California State Ocean Lifeguard which means that I am an excellent waterman and also a very outgoing, and competitive person. I have competed on the surf team for 6 years and will continue this year as a Senior. I have been on the swim team every year of my high school career with my times improving immensely over the seasons. My competitiveness and motivation has allowed me to set my mind to the sport of water polo and begin to improve very quickly.  As a Junior I surpassed the top players on my team in skill level. As a freshman 3  years ago I was the bench player who came in once in awhile and now I am the two time top scorer of my team and one time MVP. I was also an All League Honorable Mention. Going into this season I will be the captain of my team and so far I am the top scorer. Every single sport I have played since I was little has been a team sport. I pride myself in being a team player and enjoy an assist as much as a goal. I have played sports including hockey, baseball, football and basketball for multiple seasons at a time, and excelled in many of them. My coaches have always liked me because I am always very open for new learning opportunities and I am easily coachable. I have been told by many coaches and spectators that I am the hardest working player they have seen, spending many hours on the road getting to extra training and club teams. My future aspirations are to play at the highest water polo level I can reach, and get a college degree in Fire Technology and eventually become a Fire Fighter/Paramedic.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
