Personal Statement
My name is Alek Stanisic. I am a Junior (Class of 2024) at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. I consider myself a versatile water polo player who can play any role on a team, but my strengths are posting up on the 1/2 side, as well as center and center defender. Currently, this past quarter I had a 4.51 GPA with a 4.20 overall GPA in my two and a half years in high school. My academics are just as important to me as my athletics, so I challenge myself in high school by taking multiple AP and honors courses. I have also been recognized for my academic achievements by the National Honors Society. I am interested in a variety of areas of study including business, medicine, journalism, and law. Both my sophomore and junior years, I was selected for the 18 U Great Lakes Zone (GLZ) regional team for the ODP Super Regional tournaments in Greensboro, North Carolina and Dallas, Texas and in 2023 was selected for the GLZ nationals team roster for the ODP national tournament in San Antonio, Texas. I have been a three year varsity player at St. X, winning back to back regional championships and two final four appearances in the state playoffs. At the conclusion of this past high school season I was presented with the Jose Cerda Foundation #3 award for "dedication to team and desire for self improvement" which I believe is a reflection of my deep hunger to improve and develop as a water polo player and person. I want to play college water polo because of the high athletic and academic standards required to be a student athlete, as well as the team bonding and comradery that comes with the sport. My coaches and teammates would describe me as a hard working, team-first oriented player who brings a spark to the team with a cheerful attitude and competitive mindset.
