I am Shayla Hurley from Calgary Alberta, I played as a starting Left Field with Bryant & Stratton VA for 2 years, as well as a season with Mount Royal University as their starting shortstop. Prior to that I have played competitive softball on a club travel team for 8 years and before that community ball for 2 years. I have been awarded clutch contributor for my travel team in 2019, defensive player of the year at Bryant & Stratton in 2024 and made the all star team for shortstop in 2024 with Mount Royal University. I am a reliable player, I have gained a lot of knowledge around the game since playing college ball in the states, my team can count on me to always execute on the field and in the batters box. I play left field primarily and won defensive player of the year award during my sophomore year in college. I am 5'3" and 120 lbs with good speed and range. Leading the teams on base percentage is also something I am proud of as well as having a very high number of stolen bases each season, in my sophomore year in college I collected 29 stolen bases with 0 pickoffs. I am a lefty hitter, however am also very good at bunting and cam slap on the left side as well. In post secondary I am looking at going into some kind of art field/ major although Im open to other fields too. I am very detail oriented and have an eye for the small things as well as a huge drive to win. I give my all in every practice and game as I understand the importance of mastering the little things in the game, as it is the little things that allow for the big things to happen. I have been told by coaches that I am very coachable and easy to get along with. I am very open to trying new positions, wherever my team needs me is where I am happy to be. Softball has been my primary focus for most of my life, I love the sport more than anything, the field is my happy place. I want to continuously get better in this sport and just learn more everyday. I have also umpired in my past, I did this to get more time on the diamond in general and to learn the game from both sides of the plate. Usually I am found at the top of the batting order at either 1st or 2nd, this is because I can be trusted to go deep in the count, I am not afraid to take pitches and swing with 2 strikes, I am extremely confident in my ability to lay a bunt down as well which helps to start the game on a very positive note and create havoc. I lead by example and help get the team going right away! My super competitive nature drives me to push 100% to better myself and my teammates, I have developed great positive self talk to keep my head in the game and am resilient when it comes to an error and shaking things off. I love to support my teammates and just have a ton of fun! I love every aspect of this sport, it truly is the love of my life. During my time with Bryant and Stratton college in Virginia, we broke school records for amount of both overall and consecutive wins in season, and then broke those records again the following year. We won our regional championship for the first time in school history. Because of that I got the opportunity to compete at the NJCAA D2 world series in 2024. I am super competitive and I know what it takes to be a champion.
