Hi, my name is Megan Parno and I would like to introduce myself! I am 17 years old, 2017 graduate, and am going into grade 12 at Fleetwood Park Secondary School, in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. My true passion is softball! I began playing when I was 5 years old. Ever since then I have played at the highest level possible and loved every moment. This past summer I was chosen to be part of the Great Britain Junior National Team. At the European Championship this past summer in Spain we had the highest showin ever winning the tournament. I played first base and batted fourth the whole tournament. My batting average was .385 and my on base was .514.
When I was younger I met and became friends with Jenn Salling, and ever since then she has always been my idol. I admire her leadership on and off the field, her will and passion to win, and of course her skill while playing. She is a big part of why I am who I am as a person. On her many teams she found a perfect balance of her leadership, and I think that is really important to be able to do. Softball has always been apart of my life and I cant wait to attend a school where I can continue to develop as a player through practices and games.
Ideally, I am looking for a school where I can grow under the eye of an experienced coach, as well as be challenged academically. I aspire to attend a university that is a great academic match for me and best supports my needs. Although I am not entirely sure of my desired major, I would love to go into Business of some sort.
At my high school in Canada, I have a GPA of 3.6, and have achieved of my personal goals. Throughout my 4 high school years, I have been on the "A" honour roll as well as the "G" honour roll (Good work habits). In my tenth year at Fleetwood Park I was named the most outstanding business student.
In addition to softball, I also play volleyball, soccer and run cross country. In these other sports I have helped my team bring many trophies and banners back to our school. On November 15, 2015 I ran in the New Balance Fall Classic half marathon in Vancouver. I ran it in 1:49 achieving my goal of 1:50. I trained hard for 12 weeks and never missed a day of running, I think this demonstrates my passion and dedication for anything I do
Along with my sports and academics, I also love to help others! I have previously helped coach a younger softball team, this taught me a ton regarding patience, leadership, and how to coach/teach kids. I learned how organize and run drills, and more than that I bettered my communication skills. I have also been part of "Surrey Leadership Youth Council", where we discussed problems in our city and how to fix them. We then presented these ideas to other youth in my city. I also have helped out in the "Coldest Night Of The Year", a walk to benefit the homeless, and have participated in Cancer Benefit runs.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me, and goodluck in your upcoming softball season!
