I am a scholar athlete who is passionate about my education and sports. My father was a professional baseball player and retired to become a veterinarian and he is my inspiration. I consider myself a bookworm and academic person who also happens to love sports. My father is the same way. He was always the player who read on the bus on road trips and was called "Doc" for being so smart. As long as I can remember, I have always been taught to play each game like it's my last game. My dad talks about baseball and gets emotional. I know that I only get to play softball as long as my body will allow and the thought of not playing makes me truly sad. Sports has always been a priority in my life because not only does it make me physically strong but it has taught me how to work hard, persevere, stay focused, and strive to reach higher and higher goals. My teammates are my sisters. We support each other and we're there for each other through all the tough times. My parents have also taught me how important sports can shape your character. They own a veterinary hospital and some of their best employees were high level athletes. To be a high level athlete, only the hardest-working, and toughest survive. I want to be that type of person. In softball, I have to have a short term memory about failure and find the motivation to stay focused and perform. My sport is a game of failure so I know that if 1/3 of the time I am successful at the plate, that is considered a solid effort. I know that sports and academics have worked well together for me and any challenge that has come my way has been easier to overcome because I deal with failure on a regular basis. It has really helped my self confidence and helped me become a leader.
