Olivia Urso '26 Recruiting Profile

Hi, my name is Olivia. My dream is to attend a college where I can get an outstanding education, play collegiate softball, and belong and contribute to a diverse and stimulating academic community. I am passionate about playing softball--I have been playing since I was 6 years old. I have spoken with college athletes who are alumni of my school, Francis Parker, and I know it takes a lot of work and dedication to play collegiate sports at top academic schools. I attend a very academically demanding school. I have an average of three hours of homework six nights a week; and playing on a club team makes for a demanding schedule, but I love playing softball and I have been able to achieve a 4.2 (4.33 scale/ 4.4 weighted. I think this challenging schedule will prepare me for being a collegiate athlete.

I would say I am a curious student; I have received academic awards for math, art, biology and Spanish and athletic awards for softball and golf.  I also like to challenge myself.  As a freshman, I  took AP Computer Science because I think it’s a skill I should have because I am interested in a career in a STEM field, but I didn’t know anything about it at the beginning of the year. 

This is my 10^th year in Girl Scouts, and I earned the Silver Award for my project on food waste. I support refugee families from Ukraine and Afghanistan through Welcome Home, a San Diego-based organization. I helped Welcome Home organize and run a marketplace for 30 refugee families, and I raised $2,500 through two bake sales I held in my neighborhood. I am also active with Female Athlete Volunteers, where I volunteer at organizations throughout San Diego.  

I have been told by coaches that I am a very coachable player. I never quit and I am there for my teammates when they need someone to pick them up.  I value belonging to a team, that is part of what I love about playing softball and the main reason why I want to compete at the collegiate level—to have the privilege and the opportunity to have that experience, and forge those relationships that you can only build being part of a team.
