Personal Statement
I first discovered my love for softball when I began playing 8U in Prosper, Texas after my family had moved there from New York City. While in Texas, I had the opportunity to play on a few different teams which gave me the opportunity to play different positions until 14U when my family moved to Ammon, Idaho. I played for Hillcrest High School my Freshman year on the Freshman and Junior Varsity teams. I also tried out for the Black Knights 14U travel team and that’s where my love of playing third base began. When my dad had another job change, we then moved to American Falls, Idaho my sophomore year where I made the varsity team at American Falls High School as a starter. I also started playing for the Pocatello Reign travel team the summer of my sophomore year and have been playing year-round for them as an infielder and outfielder ever since. I will be playing for them as an 18U player for the summer of 2022.
Because I have had to move around a lot more than expected, at first it was hard changing teams and establishing who I am as a softball player. However, because of it, I have been able grow more as a player and have been forced to work harder on the field and learn how to adapt to my circumstances. It has also really turned out to be a blessing to have a variety of coaches with different techniques and perspectives and to have played for teams of all different levels and skill sets.
My goal after high school is to go to college and I would love to continue to my love and talent of playing softball while there. I have always had an interest in dentistry and a love for children, so my career plan is to complete a dental hygiene degree and get certified to specialize in pediatric orthodontics. At some point, I am planning on serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 18 months. The passion that I have about my religion is something I try to reflect by being kind to everyone. I have tried my best to do that while on and off the softball field.
Through softball, I have learned that I am a team leader and a people person. I have loved getting to know all of my many different teammates and making connections with them both on an off the field. I have learned that I can step up and be an example to lead my teammates to overcome obstacles.
Softball has taught me to find grit and have a drive for life more than I ever would have without it. I am a great candidate not only because I will use any academic or athletic scholarships to help me further my education and place me in a career, but I will also be a great addition to any team who is looking for an inspirational player who seeks to work hard and learn and who truly helps to better the team and better the world.
