Cara Cruthers '22 Recruiting Profile

I love playing softball! I started playing Little League baseball with my brothers at age 5, and played for 5 years. Then I moved to travel softball and never looked back. I like to always being doing something, so I was a competitive gymnast for 8 years, played volleyball for my middle school, and now am a diver on our high school varsity swim and dive team.

I have always played catcher. I love the focus it demands.  Last year I was put in at third base when not catching and found a new love. The game moves so fast there and gives you no time to think – you just do. My signature move is to come across the middle, scoop up that bunt and fire to first. I should mention that my overhand throw speed has been clocked as high as 71 mph. It is not a good idea to try to bunt when I am at third! I also played short stop this season and loved that too!

What sets me apart is that I truly am a utility player and can play multiple positions very well. The only position I have not every played is pitcher, and I haven't played 1B since I was 10, but have played all others in recent years between my club team and my high school team.
