In college I not only want to grow as an athlete, but also, as a person. My goal is to have a great education and create lifelong memories both on and off the softball field. I am interested in majoring in Exercise Science/Kinesiology. To prepare for this, I am taking Anatomy and Physiology my senior year.
I have taken three years of Early Childhood in high school and will major in Early Childhood my Senior year. I will graduate with both my high school diploma and a certificate in Early Childhood Education, which provides. me a license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for assistant teaching.
Along with majoring in Early Childhood, I will work on my senior capstone project which is a requirement of the Davinci program. DaVinci is a STEAM program that connects Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math which I was admitted into my Junior year. It is an accelerated program for students interested in STEM careers and which you need to be recommended by a teacher in the Science or Math department.
For my Capstone, I will connect Early Childhood to Physical Therapy working with our school Occupational Therapist with the preschoolers who are behind in their gross motor skills. I will learn how to help them improve their gross motor skills with exercise and other occupational and physical therapy methods.
I work at the pre-school in my high school and love working with the little kids. I am learning a lot from my teachers on how to be a great teacher and want to work in the pediatric physical therapy field.
Out of school and off the field, I am active in my church teaching Sunday school and, once we are back in the building following Coronavirus, I will volunteer with Agape ministry working with special needs teens and adults at our church.
I have played softball since first grade. The minute I stepped on the field, I knew it was the game for me. I remember seeing older girls play and looking up to them. They hit so far and threw so fast, I wanted to be just like them. Now, when I see the younger girls watching our team at tournaments, I always encourage them by giving them high fives saying "good job" or going to watch their game in between my games.
I began travel softball in fifth grade with Newton Panthers Middle Essex team. I made lifelong friends and had an amazing 3 years with the program.
I wanted to play softball more competitively in eighth grade and joined my town tournament team “The Grafton Diamonds”. The Diamonds practiced year round and I worked more with my private coach at Planet Fastpitch, Kerri Jacklets (“KJ”) improving my defensive game. I also participated in KJ’s “HitRZ Club” both Fall of 2018 and 2019. Thanks to my Diamonds coaches and KJ, I became a better player. They helped me realize it takes all the little things to create a great player: practicing flips, throwing home from center field, or even just bonding with teammates in the dugout or off the field. I played with the “Grafton Diamonds” for two years.
After making my high school varsity team my Freshman year; I wanted to push myself in club softball even further and take my game to that next level. I joined the Central Mass Thunder 18u Showcase team coached by Coach Noreen Arpin. When I made the Thunder, I realized that when I push myself I can become a better student, teammate, and softball player. So far as a member of Thunder, I have increased my throwing speed, become a more aggressive defensive player, and have increased my hitting strength.
I continued my training at Planet Fastpitch with KJ through COVID online being coached in my fielding and hitting remotely and, once PFP reopened, I participated in the athletic training programs with Tory where I worked on my arm care and strengthening as well as my speed and agility. I also was accepted into the PFP Varsity fielding and hitting program which is the highest level of training offered at Planet Fastpitch which I completed in March,2021.
