Personal Statement
My name is Olivia Nelson, I am from South Lyon, Michigan where I have lived my entire life and attend South Lyon East High School. I have been playing softball since I was five years old and joined a competitive fastpitch travel team at the age of nine. I continue to play High School ball and travel ball all year round. As as student athlete, I am hoping to attend a college that has developed program for special needs and teaching. I know that this is what i want to major in, that is why I am searching for a college that fits those needs. Other than a college that can do that for me, I am open to a college in any location. Warm weather would be a nice option since I have lived in Michigan my whole life, but that does not determine my decision. The size of the school is something I am very opeend to as well. Academically, I would prefer a school that was not as high up on the listings. Playing softball in college has been my goal ever since I started playing. It was never just a game for me, it was always so much more. Softball is a sport that takes time and dedication in all areas, and you can always improve on something. My primary position is pitcher and I also play third base. I weigh 138 pounds and I am 5'9. I have attended many college camps; one of the most recent camps was held at Michigan State and I was timed over-hand at 68 mphI continue to progress in all areas, including leadership. My freshman year of High School I was chosen to be apart of a day long leadershiptraining which helps m e to this day. I am captain of my travel team, and have been for the past three years and I am;striving to also be a captain for my school team in the next years. A lot of my leadership comes from my Father who has been a huge inspiration inmy years of softball. My Dad had hotchkins lymphoma cancer, and three years ago started a non-profit fastpitch team named, Fighters Fastpitch. He proved tomyself, other players, and parents that nothing is impossible. This is why I would like to play college softball more than anything else I will need financial help to attend any college.I hope to attend a college that I would be an asset to and help that team improve in any way that it needs. -Olivia Nelson
