Personal Statement

My name is Kaylee Smith and I am a junior at South Harrison High School in Bethany, Missouri. I have been playing softball since I was 5 years old. I have been playing competitive softball since I was 9 years old. I have gone to several camps over the years and I train with my pitching coach, Max Mothersbaugh, to improve my skills. When I was in 7th grade, I was the starting pitcher on the junior high softball team. In 8th grade, I was the starting pitcher on an amazing junior high team who only had 2 losses. My freshman year I started at 3rd base on varsity and got to pitch a few games for the varsity team. I batted over .400 and batted in the #3 hole all season. I hit an out of the park homerun against the #1 team in the conference. I received several honors including: 1st team unanimous all conference, 1st team all district infielder, academic all conference, and academic all state. I was also nominated by the St. Joseph Newspress for athlete of the week. My sophomore year I was the starting pitcher for varsity. I received honors including: 2nd team all conference, 2nd team all district pitcher, academic all conference, and academic all state. I was also voted as the team MVP. On my competitive team I play 3rd base, shortstop, and pitcher. I have received several game MVP awards. At the 2010 state tournament I was awarded the all around tournament MVP. At the 2009 world series I was awarded the defensive tournament MVP. I played for competitive teams including: Inferno (Cameron, MO), GR Storm (Bethany, MO), Elite (St. Joseph, MO), and Smithville Sting (Smithville, MO). I plan to play for the Trojanettes next summer. My freshman year I did track and threw the discus. I took 2nd place in the conference for discus. My sophomore year I became a starter on the varsity basketball team. Not only was I a starter, but I was the leading scorer on the team. I  received several honors including: Putnam County all tournament team, 1st team unanimous all conference, 1st team all district MBCA, 1st team all district MBSA, KAAN radio all star team, and academic all conference. I was also selected as the athlete of the week by St. Joseph Newspress for scoring 24 points in an overtime game against a conference team. My highest scoring game was 33 points against our rivals, the Trenton Bulldogs. My goals for junior and senior year are to be selected to the all state teams in softball and basketball. I would like to receive academic honors too. My biggest goal for the future is to receive a scholarship to play softball in college. Softball is my passion and I love every part of the game.

Club Information

  • Seasons of Club Experience
  • 5 seasons
  • 2013 Trojanettes (18U)
  • Kaylee pitched a 10 inning game at the World Series tune up , and she scored the winning run. Her team won the MO USSSA state Tournament. She made 6 error free plays before pitching one inning to 3 batters. She was the first hit of the game for her team during the 6th inning. She slid into to home to tie the game.
  • 2012 GR Storm MO (16U)
  • Storm won 2nd Place in USSSA NAMI Tournament. Kaylee pitched 3 complete games back-to-back to get the team to the championship game. Kaylee only made 1 defensive error all season long. She was also had the best batting avg on the team. Kaylee pitched very well and should have won more games, but the defense made too many errors this season. Kaylee is an excellent batter. She will make contact with the ball almost every time she comes up to bat. Not only is she a great power hitter, but she excellent at bunting and drag bunting from both sides of the plate. Kaylee is an outstanding 3rd basemen. She is not afraid to field a hard hit line drive, nor is she afraid to charge a bunt. Her strong arm and quick speed make it nearly impossible for even the fastest track stars to get on base when bunting to Kaylee.
  • 2011 GR Storm MO (16U)
  • Storm took 1st place in the following tournaments in the ASA KC Metro World Series, the USSSA MO-KAN State Tourn, and the Ann Harrison Tourn. The team also took 3rd Place in the Charlie Brown tourn; however, the stats for that tourn were lost and unable to be entered. Kaylee Smith also played on the 18U Grand River Storm on weekends that she didn't play for the 16U team. Kaylee received the Tournament MVP award at the 2010 USSSA MO-KAN State Tournament. She received several game MVP medals throughout the season. Kaylee won 2 skills competition awards at the 2010 World Series-- Runner Up in Pitching Velocity and Runner Up in the Star Drill.
  • 2010 GR Storm MO (14U)
  • Kaylee won every game that she pitched this season. She was selected as the tournament MVP of the USSSA MO-KAN State tournament. Kaylee also was the Runner Up in Pitching Velocity and the Star Drill Competitions at the World Series. Storm had more winners at the Skills competition than any other team. Kaylee Smith was named Defensive MVP of the 2009 World Series. Unable to get the 2010 Storm Pitching and Defense Stats at this time.
  • 2010 Hy-Vee MO (18U)
  • This team went undefeated 11-0!! Kaylee pitched every game. Kaylee is only going to be a Freshmen and she was pitching to several Juniors and Seniors. Kaylee played on this summer team the same time she was playing with Storm. She didn't lose 1 game pitching the summer of 2010.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • USSSA College Exposure Camp
  • 6/19/12 to 6/19/12
  • Kaylee's defense was error free at camp. The team that she was on won every game they played. She was clocked by a college coach's radar gun pitching 60mph during a game. She was very confident on the mound and led her team with a smile. When she wasn't pitching, she played 3rd base flawlessly. The other pitcher was much slower than Kaylee so the batters really pulled the ball to 3rd. She made all 3 outs 2 innings in a row at 3rd base. She was amazing.
  • Camp/Event
  • NCMC Softball Camp
  • 6/07/10 to 6/09/10
  • Kaylee and her teammate won the quick hands drill. They even scored higher than the college girls who had demonstrated the drill.
  • Camp/Event
  • NCMC Softball Camp
  • 6/08/09 to 6/10/09
