I desire to attend a university that is the best fit for me as a disciplined student/athlete. I am an individual who values hard work and perseverance, and carry this over into every aspect of my life. I enjoy learning from individuals whom have a knowledge for softball and can challenge me to reach my highest potential both on and off the field.
I believe the trait that distinguishes me from many of my academic peers and fellow athletes is my ability to overcome adversity. I am a perfectionist and won’t stop until I get it right. I seek out the resources that can help me be most successful. My physical stature can be viewed as a hindrance. However, I use it to motivate me to work harder and prove to others that there is more to me than meets the eye. Proof of this is in my hitting ability. Looking at me, you wouldn’t think I am someone who can smack a ball to the fence. However, I have challenged myself to seek outside help from hitting coaches that have critiqued my swing. This forced me to get outside my comfort zone and change what I was used to doing. Had I not been receptive to this constructive criticism, I wouldn’t be the offensive player I am today. I thrive under pressure and enjoy proving to others that I am someone to be reckoned with both on and off the diamond.
Finally, above all else, I am a team player. I am unable to play every position on that field; and therefore, understand I am only one part contributing to the whole. I genuinely appreciate what each person brings to the team and love witnessing it come all together to accomplish great things. “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.” This Helen Keller quote is representative of what I believe it takes to achieve team success. It is my dream to see it through to the collegiate level.
