Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Marley Lippitt. I will be graduating from Cooperstown Central High School in 2022. I have lived in Cooperstown, NY my entire life and therefore, grew up around baseball. I started playing t-ball at the age of 4 and began playing softball when I was 8. When I was 10 or 11 I started to practice the motion of windmill pitching, and I'll be honest, I didn't love it at first. Over the course of the next year I started to work with a pitching coach and had sessions at least twice per week. This is when I fell in love with the sport. During my 6th grade year I pitched for my CYS (Cooperstown Youth Softball) team. As the season progressed, so did my confidence. I received the Terry Bliss Award at the end of that season for sportsmanship, good moral character and dedication to the game.
Academically, I have always been an average student. Juggling coursework, practices and games year round does get challenging at times. I would like to go to a college that will provide me with a great education, while also allowing me to participate in the game that I love. I have played for many teams over the last few years, whether it was for regular season, summer league or fall ball. I pitched two years at the modified level with an undefeated season in 8th grade. During my freshman year I floated between Varsity and JV teams, pitching and batting (usually 3rd or 4th in the lineup.) I eventually earned my first Varsity letter along with my first Varsity win. I also pitched in two NYS sectional games. Unfortunately I missed out on sophomore season but we are undefeated as of right now in the middle of my junior season. I am looking forward to seeing how far our team will go!
Finally, what I love most about softball is my teammates. The relationships I have developed are based on mutual respect and support. While I care about the wins and losses, what I care about more is that I get to spend time at the field with the people I love, playing the game that I love.
