Personal Statement

COMMITTED: Signed NLI for Fall 2024: Mercyhurst University, PA (Div II)

My name is Natasha McLellan and I have been exploring universities for enrollment in September 2024. I hope to one day work as an athletic trainer or in a related profession. I am currently a junior in Ontario, Canada with a 3.4 GPA.

In the 2021 season, I was the starting shortstop and one of two pitchers on my 14U team, which won the provincial (state) championship in the most competitive Tier 1 division. In the offseason I was recruited to join the provincial (state) 16U Ontario Elite 2006 team, where I trained with the Head Coach of the Canadian Men’s National Team.

In 2021 and 2022 seasons, I received permission from the Head Coach of the Canadian Women’s National Senior Team to attend tryouts as an underage player. I was two years younger than the next oldest prospect. I attended the Canadian Women’s National Junior Team Identification Camp June 13, 2023.

In the 2023 season my 16U team is ranked 4th in Ontario, and is expected to qualify for the Canadian National Championship.

I aspire to be the best I can be, to play and win in NCAA Division 1 or 2, and to make the Canadian Women’s National team in the future. My goal is to represent my team(s) athletically and academically to the best of my ability.

I know it is hard for US schools to evaluate Canadians in-person, so I am planning to visit the Southeast to Midwest regions of the USA multiple times from the spring to fall of 2023. If you have any camps, campus visits or other softball activities I might participate in please let me know.

2023 Oakville Angels (16U Tier 1)
Stats are fall short season. Starting P/UT (SS/2B/3B) as a senior player. Batting second Natasha demonstrated a mastery of pitch selection and dominated the strike zone, crushing balls to all fields and both gaps. Natasha is a disciplined and consistent line drive hitter who led the team in AVG, SLG, H, 2B, XB, TB, R and had a .750 BA/RISP. She finished Top 3 in OBP, 3B, HR and RBI. Natasha had a hit in all 9 games, and 5 multi-hit games. When not playing INF and crushing hits, Natasha was one of the team’s four Pitchers, pitching in 4 GP and 14.2 of 43 innings . Her FIP of 2.82 was better than her 3.34 ERA, with the team playing solid offense and defense behind her. Team FPCT .963, BA .504 and 106 Runs in 9 GP.
2022 Ontario Elite 2006 (16U Provincial/State)
Provincial (state) all-star team. Player was unable to travel and play due to Covid related restrictions. Participation was training only. No stats.
2022 Port Perry Angels (16U Tier 1)
Starting shortstop and pitcher as a junior team/player. Batting third as a 16U junior, Natasha was a disciplined and consistent line drive hitter who led the team in full season AVG, OBP, SLG, H, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI and had a .485 BA/RISP. She finished 2nd in BB and 4th in R. Natasha had 12 multi-hit games. Versus 16U/18Uteams in PA, USA over 7 GP Natasha led the team with a .526/.571/.789 AVG/OBP/SLG line, leading in most offensive stats. When not playing SS and crushing hits, Natasha was the team’s second Pitcher, pitching in 17 GP and 63 of 172 innings . Her FIP of 3.10 was a better indicator of her pitching performance than her 5.53 ERA. Behind her the team batting AVG of .219 scored 2.75 R/G, while the defense struggled with a team FPCT .878.
2021 Whitby Eagles (14U Tier 1)
Won the Provincial (state) Tier 1 Championship. Starting shortstop and pitcher. Team did not record stats.
2020 Whitby Eagles (14U Tier 1)
Season was limited to 15 games due to Covid related lockdowns in Ontario.
