Sofia Oquendo Sof...Hi! My name is Sofia Oquendo and I am a 2023 outfielder from Puerto Rico. My whole life I have loved and practiced sports. I started practicing gymnastics when I was 4 years old and competitive gymnastics at the age of 6. At 9 years old I started gaining interest in baseball by watching my younger brother play. Eventually my parents decided to enroll me in a baseball team of my age. I was so in love with the sport that I would finish my gymnastics practice and go to baseball practice. After two years of baseball, my parents signed me up in a softball team. Once I did the transition, I realized that was the sport I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I retired from gymnastics at the age of 12 and dedicated myself completely to softball. I had always been a right batter, but because of my speed, my coach saw potential in me as a slapper. To my coaches' surprise, I had a very smooth transition to the left side and soon became one, if not the best, slapper in my country. I consider myself a very competitive person. I believe that my softball skills combined with my competitive drive can help any softball program achieve their goals.
