Rheana Gomez '16 Recruiting Profile

My name is Rheana Gomez and I am senior Class of 2016 at Veterans Memorial Early College High School in Brownsville, Texas.

My goal is to earn a college degree in education and play competitive softball in college.  After graduating, I plan to teach and coach softball.

I am a very dedicated and hardworking player on and off the field.  My grades have consistently improved and I am doing well academically.  I have a 3.78 grade point average with a 91.8 school avereage which places me 81/609 in my graduating class.

My best characteristic is my quickness, on the field and mentally.  I am quick to adapt to any game situation or position a coach puts me in and I always perform my best to help my team any way I can.  I started for my varsity team as a freshmen earning All-District Honorable Mention as a catcher.  The next year my coach asked me to play shortstop and I did so willingly to help the team.  Even after I broke my hand, I continued to practice and served as a pinch runner.  This past season I started at shortstop and earned All-District Second Team honors.  My team advanced to the Area Round of the 6A playoffs for the first time in school history.

My varsity coach says, "Rheana Gomez is one of the best softball players I have coached. She is fearless on the field and has a heart of a champion. Rheana plays the game with no fear and is always working to improve her skills!" and I try and live up to this everytime I step on the field.

I love playing softball, the team atmosphere and the challenges; and I am looking forward to many more at the next level.
