Hi,
My name is Aspen Karns and my goal is playing college softball and to become a special education teacher.
I am a 5'6" girl from Olympia, Washington. I attend Olympia High School and play for the Olympia Bears varsity team. I began playing on the varsity team as a freshman. I, also, currently play on Team United which is a select 18Ua team. I love being part of a team and growing with the girls. We have great friendships on and off the field.
When I am not playing softball, I value being with my family and friends. Hiking, going to the coast, and Disney are some things I enjoy doing with them. I am invested in volunteering at the local food bank and in activities such as Young Life, Rotary Club, and Bear Crew 2. Bear Crew 2 is where I discovered my love of working with students with disabilities.
I treasure working and hanging out with our special needs kids at the high school. I enjoy helping them learn everyday skills and teaching them how to be a teammate when playing sports. I am looking for a school that has the right balance between classroom time and time on the field. I would like to pursue a university that offers a special education program so I can continue my passion of helping and teaching kids. On the athletic side, I am looking for a university where I am challenged and able to grow as an athlete.
My family has a motto that was adopted when my grandpa passed away from cancer a few years ago. The motto is "Make it count". Each day in everything I do, I try to live by this motto. It means giving my best when times are tough and to enjoy every minute of the challenges as well as the successes.
Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement and I look forward to hearing from you.
