I have been playing softball since the age of 7. While I have played a variety of sports, my heart has always been with the softball in my hands. I started playing travel softball my first eligible year of 8U, without playing up. However, there was no team for 8U the next year, and I was informed I was not ready to move up to 10U. Consequently, I was without a travel team that year and only played with my school team. In hindsight, this was the best for me as it pushed me to work hard. With determination and grit, I accomplished more than I could have imagined. The following year I made the 10U team and the program’s best 10U team; I was the youngest player on that team. I managed to show I belonged and improved. Throughout the next few years, I continued to work hard and made one of the most elite teams in my state, the Wisconsin Bandits, earning a spot as the number four hitter, with the best batting average and fielding average on that team by the end of the season. The next year I tried out and made Velocity, an even more elite program than Wisconsin Bandits. I work hard through adversity and possess enough passion for the sport to help me succeed and excel.
In addition to being a softball player, I also play basketball. This sport has humbled me and helped me succeed even more. Most recently, I have struggled with others not believing in my abilities, and that fuels me to perform on the court. I just ended my first year of high school basketball as the leading scorer for our JV team and was invited to play on an AAU basketball team. These adversities helped me to develop an immense passion for sports and develop a work ethic, whereas if I had been handed everything, I know I would not be as successful.
I also excel in the classroom and have achieved high honor roll with a 4.0 GPA so far in my high school career. I maintain high grades while being a two sport athlete and participating in various clubs (e.g., International Club, FFA, Student Council). In my first semester of high school, I was already nominated by two different teachers to receive our school’s Academic Lion Award. Each teacher nominates a student monthly, but only a select few teachers’ nominations are accepted. I was most recently honored to represent my school at our conference’s Academic Bowl. My desire and ability to learn quickly is how I succeed in school and on the field.
I want to attend a top university to better myself academically and personally. I want to be pushed and challenged to work hard and excel in the classroom and on the field. One of my biggest strengths is my coachability, and therefore if you inform me to do something differently, I will listen and work at it to better myself. My goal is to attend a large college and go against the best of the best, where I can play the sport I have grown to love since I was seven years old, and receive a high quality education.
