Personal Statement
I am grateful for my natural abilities but one thing that separates me from others is shere determination. I am going to keep pushing to reach a goal until I can acomplish it. It is not if it is going to happen, but how am I going to make it happen. That is why I have worked hard to develop different skills and moves to be able to adjust to changing situations as well as players on my team.
To play with a team of players who want to put in the work to be a winning program is a long standing goal that I’ve had. I believe I’ve achieved that with my high school team and again with my summer team; my plan is to continue that trend throughout my college playing career. Academically I have always strived to do my best in the classroom. I’ve built a strong foundation to be successful in my program of study and look forward to continuing my education in either a medical or engineering field.
After a dream 8th grade year and spring and summer travel of basketball in Portland, Phoenix, Chicago, Las Vegas, Seattle, and San Diego I was excited to start my first high school basketball season. Things changed when during an open gym I was hit and ended up tearing my ACL. I had to sit out the whole season, but was able to play in the summer again. I started my first high school season as a sophomore and earned the tournament MVP of my first tournament. At the end of our season our team was 21-2 going into the region tournement and was a favorite to win state. During the begining of our second game, my other ACL was torn. I had to start the rebuilding process all over again. People come to expect a certain level of play but it takes a lot of dedication to get to that high level and stay there.
As disheartening and frustrating as these injures are I came back this year and am now playing again. I had to miss summer travel but I had to keep a positive outlook in life and work hard to get where I am right now. I have been voted MVP of the first two tournaments we have been to and am looking to continue developing as a person and a player.
