I was first introduced to basketball in grade six when I played for my middle school team. In grade seven I played again and decided to join a club team during the summer leading into grade eight. Playing on that team helped me understand the basics of basketball better and grew my passion for the sport. In grade eight I was excited to play for my school, but then found out that there wasn’t going to be a girls team because there weren’t enough players. I couldn’t let that stop me so I worked hard to earn my spot and play on the grade eight boys team. As a result, Aldergrove Community Secondary School (ACSS) asked me to play on their JR team while I was in grade eight. I was a starter for both teams and grew immensely, as a player, in skill and knowledge. After my grade eight year I knew I wanted to keep playing basketball but I realized to do this I needed to transfer schools so I made the decision to switch schools to Brookswood Secondary School (BSS). Making this switch was very difficult for me but completely worth it because I have learnt so much about basketball and being a leader. The coaches at my school helped to prepare me to play on the U15 provincial team in 2019 and are continually pushing me to be a better and stronger player. I am grateful for every opportunity I get to play the game I love and I’m so excited to continue learning and growing from basketball.
